Ikamva Youth hosted their matric day (Nyanga branch) on the 24th of January 2014. Twenty two matric learners and new tutors were in attendance, making the day an exciting and fun filled one. The purpose of the matric day was to kick start the year 2015 on high note, motivate the learners and introduce new tutors to the matric learners.

Expectations of the programme from both the learners and tutors were discussed. The main expectations was commitment and dedication from both learners and tutors. Last year matriculates were given a platform to share their experiences and to encourage the new matriculates to work hard and focus on their work. One of the new tutors (2014 matrics) noted that, “dedication, discipline and determination are the 3 most important ingredients in passing matric well and one has to choose friends wisely if they want to make it to university”.

Team work is one of the key ways of achieving great results.

The matric day was spiced with various games and ice breakers, where all the learners participated. All the learners were happy as they braved the scorching sun and went outside to play. Games played portrayed team work as they have to work in groups during their tutoring sessions. They learnt that working in a team is important.
